We understand that choosing the right insurance policy can be a confusing
process. We can help you determine which insurance products best fit your
individual needs, by providing home, life, auto and commercial insurance.
AUTO INSURANCE:
A personal auto policy (PAP) is a contract between you and an insurance
company. PAP's will cover you against losses to your vehicle (such as theft,
vandalism, etc.) or personal injuries to yourself or others due to an auto accident.
Liability coverage covers you against injuries you may cause to others in the
event of an accident. It also covers you against damage that you may cause to
someone else's property in the event of an accident. If there is an accident,
claims for pain and suffering, as well as legal costs, can quickly reach limitless
proportions. Therefore, the higher the limits of liability that you have on your PAP,
the better coverage you have.
Medical Payments Coverage (in Maryland, this is called Personal Injury
Protection, or PIP) will pay for medical expenses to you and others in your vehicle
resulting from an accident. You are required by law to have at least a small
amount of PIP coverage. The purpose for PIP is to enable an injured to obtain
medical treatment quickly instead of waiting to find out who is at fault with the
accident and then seeking medical help.
Uninsured Motorist Coverage is part of your PAP coverage that will cover you in
the event of a loss by someone 1. who has NO auto insurance coverage, or 2.
has coverage that is inadequate to cover the loss. We don't always have the cash
available to cover any type of loss if it occurs. This is another reason why it is so
important to have high limits of coverage on your PAP.
Comprehensive coverage insures your vehicle against vandalism, a broken
windshield, any type of contact with an animal, flood, or if your car is stolen.
Collision coverage insures your vehicle damage if you are in an accident (other
than contact with an animal). Usually if a vehicle is older than 10 years,
comprehensive and collision coverage are waived, due to the fact that the vehicle
isn't worth much value. Both comprehensive and collision can be written with a
deductible (your financial responsibility in the event of a claim) as low as $50 and
as high as $1,000. The lower a deductible is, the higher the premium of your PAP
is, and the higher the deductible, the lower your premium is.
